Some people complain that Singapore is all about Big Stores and Big Brands and it hard to find anything cool or fun. That is changing rapidly and this store Trolley is leading the way. Over next to Chinatown on Amboy Street in the beautiful design district Trolley has the most awesome collection of unique home decor and urban personal items. One of the owners Mindy met with the Bombsters and is looking like she might partner up the the Bombastiticians for a little Singapore market research. Thanks and Shouts out to Mindee for help and hospitality. Check her shop out next time in your in S’pore.

Top Secret Backpack coming this Fall

Hey this is the hardest working girl in plastics bizness and she needs a little recognition. But are you going to believe me, her partner and biggest fan? No, you’ll just say he a sap and click outta here. Whoa there little dogie! We have some official type people weighing in on the subject. None other than Bali’s Premeir English Language Newspaper. The Bali Times. Whose motto-The Best News You’ll Have All Week could not describe my feelings any better when I opened the paper and saw this- http://tinyurl.com/cq623s. Good going Goose! Now I’ve really embarassed her. Bombastic wouldn’t be here without you. Thanks.

Have not had a lot of time lately for as many new products as we would like but when a customer makes a request we try to push it through. A nice lady from America gave us a computer bag made from canvas to duplicate in our material. We think it came out quite nicely. Thank you very much.
The epic folks over at Mecho wrote a real sweet piece about the Bombers on their website be sure to click through and take a look. They have a killer site about all kinds of amazing products. We are really grateful for the attention. Whoa! Way to make some Bombers feel fine as a nice fresh batch of HDPE plastic goodness still warm, straight off the press. Thanks MECHO!! You guys rock!
OK, Maybe you aren’t that excited about our new sleeping post, walking foot, heavy duty sewing machine. You want a cool red sports car we know. Different Folks. Niluh and I are just crazy about having the latest and greatest equipment. We can’t afford the absolute top of the line but we buy the best within our means. It just works out so much better. You have great equipment your people are happier, your product is better and in the case of the sleeping post machine you can do something that is impossible to do any other way except by hand; strongly sew a zipper on 90 degree angle for a wallet closure, among other cool little tricks. We hack stuff together too. We are in Bali which isn’t exactly an industrial supply dreamland nor do we want it to be. We PRAY it won’t become that. So we have to homebuild a bit of stuff. This is a very worthy process. When you build your own machine or hack some machine from it’s original use to handle some aspect of your product manufacture, you learn a lot about the product, the machine and the process itself. It’s that organic knowledge that goes to your bones. It’s the knowledge gained by a multiplicity of mistakes and wracking your brain. And when it finally flows you have a different relationship with your product. You respect it more. To us that’s a lot of what this company is about, respect. And even if we don’t clean up all the world’s plastic bags if we can bump up the respect meter a coupla amps that would light up our panel pretty good. We respect our products enough that we want them to have the best people, the best machines and a company that won’t try to skimp when it comes to either making them better or making them cheaper. Thanks for listening. Gotta go. Hey N’luh!! You SHOULD see the cool laser welder I saw on the web . ITS the BOMB!!!! We gotta sell some more bags!
We have a new member of our ever growing organization, Mr Bombastic. He’s a molecule with an attitude. We wanted a symbol, as they say in the trade, a mark. Little Mr. Bombastic stands before you in defiance of everything negative. He says to you-We are the BOMB! We are the next fun thing. We can do everything together. We were going to call him Mr. O-Bomb-A but the name was already taken by some other dude. He spells it differently, but still, we thought it would get confusing. So we hope you bond with our new little friend and put your electron up and bond with other like minded molecules and cross matrix link across the globe. Together we’re gonna get this polymer started! Just need a few positive ions and a couple very very VERY large speakers. Mr B will DJ.

I guess this is the picture where we give you the “Poor Them” story and ask for a check to the Save the Plunderers Fund. The miserable folks that live in Trashland. But it really isn’t that terrible compared to some other stuff they could be doing, mining tin in Bolivia or hauling sulfur in Java. The folks aren’t that bad off, they get by, which is better than some parts of this world. Sam spends a bit of time here, Niluh too, just not so much. It’s pretty stinky. It’s not for everyone but then neither is being a garbage man. Sam actually finds the place incredibly interesting and the folks full of goofy fun when the aren’t trying to trick him or just being plain uncooperative. Because at the end of the day you have to realize that when we walk into this environment with new plans, these folks do not greet us with open arms. They don’t have the luxury of risking much and even though we promise more money for their trash and a better livelihood. They are suspicious of any change, as they well should be, because in the world that we would really like to see, this world in the picture, their world, will cease to exist. It’s old school solid waste warehousing in the ground and it’s a dumb way to deal with our trash. But it’s cheap in the short run, despite the long term costs, so it’s what we do. And the people that benefit from that, don’t want it to change. This is part of the very complicated equation solving the waste management problems worldwide. What about these folks, the folks to whom trash is everything?

Niluh worked like crazy while I was in San Francisco and got this order out to Australia, for our buddy David at 3rdborn who’s the official Bombastic Plastix ™ King of OZ. We wanted to call him Wizard but he just wouldn’t go for it. When we got the order, I was like… whoa…all those white wallets how is that going to work? Well they look incredible. And summer is approaching in OZ and some lucky hipsters are going to be in cutting edge recycled product heaven,so it was definitely the call.We have a new process we have been using and with our smoother recycled plastic material and it has has really taken a good jump forward. They feel all buttery and yummy. You could almost eat them. Our lawyers advise us to remind you no matter how plastilicious our Bombastic Plastix ™ products appear- please do not attempt to actually eat our products, they are to be exclusively used for their intended purpose which for us of is selling them to you so we can make our rent and buy food. Not for eating OK? We tried it in one of our leaner months and honestly as yummy as they look, they just don’t taste very good. Just wanted to clear that up : )
Just back from San Francisco it is one Bombastic Fantastic City. Just a short visit but took some samples and whadyaknow looks like we are going to have a few places carrying our stuff as soon as we figure out how to start stocking product and fulfilling orders in America which should happen pretty soon. Was so impressed with how aware everyone was of environmental issues and all the innovative design. Coupla nice shops you should check out- Inside Asia in Sausalito and Tiller Digs in Corte Madera you might just find some cool products from a a certain small but growing recycled plastic products peddler. Want to give a shout out here in the blog to my friends Lauren,Brahna,Dagmar and Julii who made my visit so great and offered so much support. Thanks guys for the food in my belly, the roof over my head and the warm fuzzy stuff in my heart, a part of which, I will always leave in San Francisco but the rest comes back to Bali where my toes are never cold.
Here’ a pic of a little shipment going to England. The cool thing about this is that we did it all in about 13 days. Client’s idea, cocktail napkin sketch, prototype, approval, special material manufacture and sewing for a little 150 piece order. All of our goofing around is starting to pay off. Niluh cringes every time I head off to the electronics store or scrap yard to cobble some new apparatus together to improve our process but in the end after about 9 mistakes 1 good thing comes of it. Niluh is more of the direct method- work like like supergirl until the thing is done with what she has on hand. Each from each we are getting a little better everyday. So here is a nifty little folding all purpose tote. Waterproof ready for that apple juice spilling in the bottom just wash it out. It folds down into a cool little package with a velcro closure and we can crank ‘em out just like we told our client we could. We don’t just talk trash, we make stuff out of it. So I dub thee little bag that could -The Smackdown Bag you are one tough little guy who gets down with his bad self.
Just picked up a new batch of wallets. We were trying to improve the piping around the edge of the zippered closure. We gave the supplier a break and let him use a high quality vinyl material instead of our plastic, a small compromise but the vinyl is easier to sew so they are able to achieve a better finish plus the vinyl is a bitter softer so it feels good when you hold it in your hand.
The big mod on this new stuff is that we thickened the plastic and textured the fabric with extra layers and heat. We achieved a cool coarse leather like material that we are calling “Plastigator”
Advisory- No actual reptiles were harmed in the making of Plastigator products. The Plastigator is an imaginary animal like the unicorn he lives in the plastic forest with all his plastic animal friends and we would never hurt him. Every now and then Plastgator sheds his skin and gives it to us to make stuff out of and we give him some plastic bags to eat.
Plastic snakeskin is proving a bit more elusive so our “Plasticonda” products will be a little yet. But look for them to slither on to the scene this year. Cheers Sam
